New Lens Test. (portraits)

I got my lens yesterday (Canon 50mm f/1.8) I managed to do a few serious tests to check chromatic aberration, vignetting and barrel distortion, which the lens passed with flying colours. Then I took a few snaps of Maria when she was on the phone.. here is one of my favourites.

Business Card Designs

I have had business cards in the past and I always used the designs offered for free by the printing company. This time however I fancied a go at it myself, I wanted something original and more arty. So here are the first two ideas I came up with...

I decided that these were too plain in the background and needed something more eye catching, also the I liked the yellow but it was hard to make the text stand out. I wanted to keep the same fonts I have used in the web logo design so it all tied in together. Then I came up with this design:

FRONT:

BACK:

I felt like this design had more going on in the background and the Bokeh effect tied in well with the whole photography vibe. The back design was kept clean with just the logo and the website address. I got the finished cards back from the print company and I am happy with how they look.

Self Portrait 2 (portraits)

Got all my new equipment the other day, came all the way from the good old USA. I am so happy I found http://www.mpex.com/ they have a varied range of lighting equipment thats hard to find anywhere else. They have fully embraced the Strobist Methodology, and offer taylored packages to the Strobist shooter.

I needed a new self portrait for my website, so what better way to test all the new gear.

Family Shoot (portraits)

I was in Antequera at the weekend to do my first family shoot. Reme and Maria were a great laugh and the shoot went well, they really liked the images which is the biggest reward for me. In this shoot as you will see from the images I was experimenting with backlighting and flare. I think this effect takes the images to a new level and adds that something special.

It was also a great joy to travel with all my new portable equipment, no more lugging huge studio lighting kits and battery packs to each shoot. I cant wait for my next family session :-).

Self-Portrait (portraits)

Its not very often I get infront of the camera, so I decided to do a self portrait. I used my old Bronica film camera which was focused on the seat, I then positioned my camera on a tripod and attached a 100mm macro lens. I focused on the screen of the Bronica with my digital camera and macro lens set-up, switched the auto timer on and ran to the seat to make the image.

Film, whats that? (documentary)

Even though I shoot digital 99% of the time, the other 1% of the time I really enjoy getting my old film camera out inserting a roll of black and white film and heading out to see what catches my eye. The other Sunday I decided to do just that and heading off into the city. My eyes tend to work differently when I shoot B&W film, I pay more attention to tone, contrast and shadow. I wondered up the Albicin taking in all it had to offer...
